Defending our discipline took a whole new level this week when I found this video from Rockford Career College. It troubled me to see a school marketing its educational offer by mocking anthropology. Well, I thought to myself, if you need to belittle anthropology to promote your degrees, than your students will not have much to offer to the world in terms of understanding and working with other, diverse human beings. So I told them just that. I also gave them a short list of anthropologists whose work I suggested they read and offered to provide them with an extensive bibliography once they are done reading that. I received a short reply through social media saying that they are reviewing the feedback regarding the ads. The ad I am talking about is still online.
That is not all I have done this week though. I also found a couple of jobs that might be of interest.
